Brenda Duke 

Alumni SPOTLIGHT for the month of September, 2020

Graduating Class: 1995

Band Directors: Greg Lawson and Richard Lutz

Instrument: Bb clarinet and Eb clarinet

Favorite Performances: all state TMEA performance can’t remember year?

Awards and Accomplishments: All-State sophomore through senior year

                                                         Mid-state 7th-12th grade

                                                         Governors school for the arts, 1993

                                                         John Phillip Sousa award senior year.

Memorable Moments in LHS Band: Being drum major and winning MCI multiple times, enjoyed every day I was in the band at LHS!

 

Brenda Duke has been a  band director for 20 years, 16 years at various schools in metro Nashville, 2 years at Warren County Middle School , and the past 3 years at Thurman Francis Arts Magnet School.

Trey Cokeroft 

Alumni SPOTLIGHT for the month of August, 2020

Class of 2002

Band Directors: Greg Lawson, Richard Lutz, Michael Morjal

Instrument: Percussion

Favorite Performances: 2000 - Les Miserables

Awards and Accomplishments:

        Mid-State percussion multiple years 

        Rutherford County Honor Band

        Governor’s School for the Arts

        Music City Mystique

Memorable Moments in LHS Band: Playing invisible frisbee and arguing over who would be the temple block player on “Sleigh Ride” each Christmas. 

 

Trey taught Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental science at Currey Ingram Academy in Brentwood, TN from 2012 - 2018. Trey served on the staff for Chattanooga Independent Percussion Ensemble from 2013-2016, as a snare technician and Ensemble Coordinator. He is currently living in Irondale, AL and working remotely for Dell Technologies as an Inside Sales Representative. Trey has worked with the LHS percussion section since 2010 and has arranged their battery percussion parts since 2011.

Phillip Simpson 

Alumni SPOTLIGHT for the Month of July, 2020

Class of 1997

Band Directors: Greg Lawson and Richard Lutz

Instrument: Clarinet 

Favorite Performances: Finals at MCI (senior year); won it three times. All-State performance (senior year) 

Awards and Accomplishments:

              Mid State: 8th grade through 12th grade - Bass Clarinet

              All State: Junior and Senior Year - Bass Clarinet 

              Participated with MTSU's Wind Band Conference - Bass Clarinet

              Participated with TTU's Festival of Winds and Percussion - Bass Clarinet 

              Selected for Governor's School, 1996

              Band President

              Booster Award 

              Directors Award

Memorable Moment: Many competitions and concert festivals.

Mr. Simpson serves as the permanent director for LaVergne Middle School. His former appointments in his eighteen years teaching career include Itinerant Director for LaVergne and Smyrna Middle School, Director of Bands at LaVergne High School in LaVergne, Tennessee, Assistant Director of Bands at Coffee County Central High School in Coffee County, Tennessee, and Assistant Director of Bands at Harpeth High School and Harpeth Middle School in Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
